Croton Caring provides free, round-trip transportation to medical appointments within 15 miles of Croton. This included Phelps Memorial Hospital Complex, Westchester Medical Center, Northern Westchester Medical Center and NYP-Hudson Valley Hospital. The program runs Monday through Friday for appointments between 9am and 5pm.
Individuals requesting transportation must be able to get in and out of the vehicle with minimal assistance. If assistance is required, an aide or companion may accompany as long as it has been pre-arranged at the time of requesting transportation.
Each individual is permitted up to three (3) round trip rides per month and rides must be requested ten (10) days in advance of the appointment. Should demand increase beyond capacity we reserve the right to limit the number of requests we accommodate per requestor.
Requesting a Ride:
Requests can be made by email to [email protected] (preferably) or by phone to 914-203-3351.
Requests must be made at least ten (10) days before the appointment.
Requests must include: (a) the date and time of the appointment; (b) the address of the appointment; (c) the requested pick-up time; (d) the expected duration of the appointment; and € your contact information (address and phone number – preferably cell phone).
Once a Request is Made:
Please do not call or email again about the same request. It may take several days to arrange for a driver and we will reach out to you once we have done so. Only if you have not heard from us within 48 hours of your requested pickup time should you contact us to check in.
Once we have identified a driver, we will provide you with information for your driver (including the driver’s phone number).
On the Day of the Appointment:
Once we have provided you with the information for the driver, you should contact the driver directly:
If you will no longer need the requested ride, please let the volunteer driver know as soon as possible.
If, on the day of the appointment, the driver is late, please contact the driver directly and DO NOT call us.
If, in the rare, but unfortunate, event that the volunteer driver does not arrive to take you to the appointment, please call us to let us know (and we will deal directly with the driver). HOWEVER, we will not be able to provide a replacement driver.
Additional Requirements, Guidelines and Information:
Drivers are not permitted to transport individuals to locations other than the scheduled appointment, and will drop off at the same location as the pickup.
COVID Vaccination Requirement. To participate in our medical transportation program you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. “Fully vaccinated” means having received (a) two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna shots or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson shot and (b) at least one booster shot. Please confirm with us that you are vaccinated when requesting the appointment and bring your vaccination card with you should the driver request to see it. If the driver requests to see your vaccination card and you are unable to produce it, the driver has the right to decline the ride.
2023 MEDICAL TRANSPORATION “PAUSES”:
This year we will have three “pauses” of our medical transportation program due to holidays when our volunteer drivers may not be available. NO rides will be given or requests accepted during these times. Please plan your appointments accordingly.
March 27th though April 9th – Appointments from April 10th-14th must be scheduled prior to March 24th.
August 21st through September 5th – Appointments from September 6th-8th and 11th-12th must be scheduled prior to August 18th.
December 18th through January 7th (2024) – Appointments from January 8th-12th must be scheduled prior to December 15th.
